In addition, there will be 19 more cruise ships visiting the Port across the season next year bringing thousands of visitors to North East England.
The choice of destinations from the Port of Tyne is also growing. In 2016 holidaymakers can discover Norway’s magnificent scenery and cruise through the heart of the Norwegian Fjords.
As the closest UK port to the Baltics, other cruise itineraries from the Port of Tyne include the spectacular city of St. Petersburg, enchanting Copenhagen, historic Berlin, the Estonia capital Tallinn, Finland’s capital of Helsinki, the beautiful Swedish capital city Stockholm and the spectacular Jutland Peninsula of Denmark.
And with much more choice than ever before passengers sailing on a cruise from the Port of Tyne can even sail into the sunshine with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and cruise to the stunning landscapes of Spain, Portugal and the Canaries visiting the islands of Madeira, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines flag ship Balmoral will be calling Port of Tyne its home from 2016, operating 12 cruises from the Tyne and Cruise and Maritime Voyages will be operating 10 cruises. And in addition to its popular Norwegian destinations Cruise and Maritime Voyage’s impressive new flag ship Magellan will be offering cruises to Iceland’s legendary land of fire and ice and the beautiful islands of Orkney, Shetland and the Faroes.
Passengers sailing with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines from the Port of Tyne to Spitsbergen in northernmost Norway can look forward to taking part in the unique Neptune Line crossing ceremony as they sail across the Arctic Circle and cross the equator on-board the magnificent flagship Balmoral.
Nolan Gray, Port of Tyne Business Development Director, said: “The Port of Tyne is the closest UK port to the Baltics, the Fjords and Russia and offers easy access to the Canary Islands, The Azores, Portugal, Morocco and Spain. The Tyne is not only an excellent choice to start or finish a cruise but it can rival many European ports in terms of easy access to world-class tourist attractions all within one hour from the Port.”
With the number of cruise calls on the rise, the popularity of cruising continues to grow and with so much included in the price it’s easy to see why. Most cruise lines include five-star cuisine, drinks packages, West End style performances and luxury on-board spas – all adding up to fantastic value for money. Travelling from port to port is a luxury, with no need to worry about directions or unpacking. Passengers wake up in an amazing new place, refreshed and ready to explore.
